Ericsson and Entel expand 5G partnership

A new 5G standalone (SA) deal between Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) and Entel is set to revolutionize Chile’s fifth-generation networks and accelerate the country’s digital transformation towards Industry 4.0. With this agreement, Entel Corp will integrate Ericsson’s private 5G solution into its offering and work with Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to deliver it.

5G SA networks are particularly suitable for complex industrial environments, as the network’s fast data processing supports business-critical applications that require ultra-fast response times in the millisecond range. Ericsson’s 5G SA networks are already being used worldwide by various industries, including mining, ports, automotive and agriculture.

Entel Corp segment customers benefit from the use of high-speed cellular networks as well as the ability to connect thousands of devices to function optimally, with guaranteed quality of service, minimal delays, security and data reliability.

Ericsson and Entel have worked together to roll out 5G across Chile while conducting a dozen pilot projects. These pilots cover a range of industries, including healthcare (the first remote-controlled ultrasound), smart factories (remote-controlled robotics), agriculture and forestry (drones with advanced analytics for real-time monitoring and crop status information), and transportation management.

Julián San Martín, Vice President of Corporations Market, Entel, says: “This important agreement with Ericsson will enable our major customers to move towards Industry 4.0 and offer them the operational efficiencies of a cutting-edge technology like 5G. With the help of Entel Corp we are providing all our experience available to accelerate our customers’ digital transformation processes through robust and convergent solutions.”

Rodrigo Dienstmann, CEO of Ericsson for the Southern Cone of Latin America, says: “With this agreement, Ericsson opens a sales channel with Entel Chile, bringing the 5G innovation to businesses and corporations. We are taking a leadership role to ensure 5G has a transformative impact on Chile. Ericsson Private 5G’s high-quality, state-of-the-art connectivity can deliver efficiencies and help industry generate profits by creating safer, more productive and more sustainable business operations. We have developed an easy-to-use cellular connectivity solution to address the connectivity challenges of different sectors while creating an ecosystem that fuels the 5G evolution.”

Last month, Entel became the first operator in Chile to complete 100 percent nationwide deployment of the first stage of its new 5G network.
